While I haven't been in France for very long yet, I've had some incredible food! Here are the highlights:

A galette du roi from a local bakery. These puff pastries filled frangipane are served during January to celebrate the Epiphany. Many of them have a fève (or little figurine) baked inside to represent the Christ Child.

A croque au jambon and a cafe latte from a café near campus.

A smoked salmon, lemon, and crème fraîche galette from Crêperie Marie Morgane. Galettes are similar to crêpes but made with buckwheat flour; they're typically savory and come from the Breton (Brittany) region of France. Galettes bretonnes are not to be confused with the galette du roi above. This is the best thing I've eaten so far!

A dark chocolate, crème maison, and chestnut cream crêpe, also from Crêperie Marie Morgane.

Oh my! It looks like you are getting quite the tasty treats! You will have no problem with the terms used on the Great British Baking Show after this.
